Create a Logo

A nice logo can go a long ways towards making a web site look your own. The logo for this site was created with PhotoFiltre, a free download. Granted, my logo isn't shooting off fireworks or anything but it personalizes the site and it sure beats plain text. Remember, even if you install some Fancy Fonts on your computer and use them to create a text logo, chances are they won't display properly for your viewers, they must first be transformed into an image.

Free Software
That's where a graphics software comes in. I use several, all free. In my arsenal are: PhotoFiltre, Pos Text Effects, Paint.NET, Jeta Logo Designer and XHeader. For images I use Irfanview and PhotoScape. I use PhotoFiltre for many of my logos because of it's simplicity and it does a really nice job. Paint.NET is more complicated and is capable of creating stunning, complex graphics but it's a slower process so I don't use it as much.

Another FREE logo designer that I recently discovered is Jeta Logo Designer. I highly recommend Jeta for logos, this is a specialized software just for logos and does a very nice job. There is a paid version as well but the free edition will do just fine for most applications.
I've also used XHeader, it will create very nice logos with a minimal learning curve. Both of these have FREE editions with paid upgrades available.

Fonts
To create a logo the first thing you'll need to do is find a suitable font. To find the styles of fonts installed on your machine, open a text editor and use the font dropdown to see your fonts. Keep in mind some editors will only display certain fonts which are 'web safe', meaning they should display properly on all web browsers. That's why you should go ahead and download PhotoFiltre first. I use download.com for most downloads which is a well known and safe download site but the free version of PhotoFiltre is not listed there. As with any downloads make sure you are not installing some unwanted software such as toolbars or antivirus. Next, if need be download free fonts from dafont and install them on your machine. I've used dafont for years and never had any problems with the downloads. There are other free font sites but dafont is my favorite. Don't pick too wild of a font for your logo. There are some exotic fonts that are hard to read, keep your logo easy on the eyes and easy to read so your viewers remember it.

Logo for Mobile
In today's times all sites should be designed to display in Mobile as well as desk top or standard view. For some Blogger templates a logo 300 pixels wide and 75 pixels high may be necessary. This is done so the entire logo displays on Mobile devices which I feel is important. Logos don't need to be huge, just memorable. I've not had any problems with logos displaying properly using the Contempo themes but I can't attest to all of the available themes.

Responsive Themes
Blogger now has responsive themes as well as non-responsive. Contempo, Soho, Emporio and Notable are all responsive, meaning they will adapt to any size screen display without any side scrolling.
